Home for Cooperation 4th Anniversary

The Home for Cooperation Celebrated its 4th year of its establishment and the cooperation with the motto “Love recognizes no barriers!”

Last Tuesday (June 9, 2015), The Home for Cooperation celebrated four prosperous years of its positive contribution to the peace building and to the culture of cooperation in Cyprus.

The celebration was opened with the Green Line Love Park during which the Ledra Palace crossing line became a very happy, colourful and vibrant road for one hour! The official ceremony was addressed by the two community leaders of Nicosia Mr. Yiorkadjis and Mr. Harmancı, the Ambassador of Norway H.E. Mr. Sjur Larsen, the Communications Officer of the Home Ms. Yaprak Aydın and Ms Salpy Eskidjian from the Governing Board of the Home for Cooperation. After then, the celebration ended with the reception accompanied by the Amiche Quartet.

“Ultimately the Home for Cooperation represents the vision for a sustainable future for Cyprus and all its citizens,” said Yiorkadjis. As to Harmancı, “the goal has always been to raise awareness in relation to the reunification of our island.” With their presence and honest greetings, they showed once again that our city despite of its division has young leaders with a full commitment to cooperate and dialogue.

In just 4 years, the Home has achieved bringing people together from across Cyprus at the buffer zone. In Eskidjian’s words, “It is no longer unusual to see a cleric, an educator, a drummer, a cyclist, a basketball player, a UN official, a mayor, a yoga teacher, an actor, a singer, a politician, a hip hop dancer, a researcher, a journalist and more, feeling at home at the Home.” Therefore it is a success story and it would be impossible without local and international support and trust. The representative of the Norway Grants –the main donour of the Home since the beginning, the Ambassador Larsen stated that “It is a flagship project of the Norway Grants in Cyprus. We will continue to support the Home’s activities. Now the Home is an exception; after the solution it will become an example. Its role has already extended the pre-solution period.”

The Home for Cooperation would like to thank all their friends and supporters who have made it possible for the Home to sustain this place for 4 years. The Home will continue having an active role in the process of peace building and reconciliation in Cyprus, by transforming the buffer zone into a zone of cooperation with love where the peace will spring!
